Carnival to have Rio theme for 2016

THE SPIRIT of the Rio Carnival will be the driving force behind the 2016 Evesham Carnival, the Observer can reveal.

Organisers unveiled their ‘Rio Comes to Evesham’ theme for next year’s event which will be held on Saturday, June 25.

And following the carnival’s triumphant return to the town last month, organisers also confirmed on Wednesday (July 8) the event would be held every year.

The carnival had been held every two years for a short while but organisers are keen to capitalise on the popularity of the event which attracted thousands into Evesham town centre.

Glen Lyon, of the members of the carnival’s committee, told the Observer organisers held a ‘very successful’ meeting at Basepoint Business Centre last Wednesday (July 1)

“Several new faces joined to give more depth and breadth to the existing committee members who brought back the Evesham Carnival this year after a seven year absence,” he said.

“Many exciting and interesting ideas were discussed and the group then split into sub committees to concentrate on different aspects of the proposed Carnival 2016.

“‘Rio comes to Evesham’ on June 25, 2016 will bring all the colour and spectacle of the legendary Rio Carnival to the streets of Evesham.”
