Butcher's burgers win again

AN EVESHAM butcher has been crowned National Speciality Burger Champion for his smoked bacon and asparagus burger.

Dave Purser of The Master Butcher, claimed the prestigious title at the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders’ (NFMFT) National Meat Products Competition, in Stoneleigh last month.

The butcher’s burger scored maximum points and his Kentucky chicken burger – his second entry in the National Speciality Burger category – finished second.

Mr Purser also picked up awards for his traditional pork sausage, tomato and basil sausage, beef and Guinness sausage, traditional beef burger, BBQ burger and pork and sweet chilli with lime burger.

Mr Purser is no stranger to trophies, winning three gold medals at the Staffordshire Showground for his sausages last November, and claimed two gold and two silver medals along with the renowned Sibley Trophy for the ‘Best Traditional Sausage’ at The Robin Hood Championships in May.

“I’m over the moon we have won as I know how much asparagus means to Evesham and I’m glad the judges agree too,” said Mr Purser.

“More than 40 of the top butchers in the country had entered more than 300 products, showing how competitive the competition was.

“With this latest win I have now won a total of 108 medals, awards and trophies,” he added.
