A FUND-RAISING event at an Evesham community centre has been hailed a success after raising £500 towards its redevelopment.

Wallace House Community Centre held an open day on Saturday (October 24), where hundreds turned up in droves to support the centre in its bid to raise £170,000 to return the historic venue to its former glory.

Visitors were able to see the facilities Wallace House offers through a tour taken by centre manager Lynda Huggan, and enjoy taster sessions in table tennis, drumming workshops, dance and drama.

There was also Christmas fayre stalls, a plant stall and live music throughout the day providing a pleasant atmosphere and bringing the town’s community together.

Organiser Fran Webb said: “It was a fantastic day. Evesham has done itself proud by getting behind this event.

“Our aim was to encourage everyone to come and have a good look around and I think we’ve succeeded.

“We raised a tremendous £500 thanks to everyone who supported us and we hope to see them again at our next fund-raiser.”

A Christmas show featuring Andy Kelso as ‘Elvis’ will be held at the community centre on Saturday, December 12.
