Carousel comes round again for PODS

Evesham Editorial 23rd May, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

MEMBERS of Pershore Operatic and Dramatic Society (PODS) will be taking to the stage for their version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical ‘Carousel’.

The production tells the tale of a bad lad who can harden yet melt hearts in equal measure and a merry-go-round of conflicting emotions and ill-fated decisions.

When headstrong mill worker, Julie Jordan, falls for fairground chancer Billy Biggelow, their whirlwind romance is set for unexpected and explosive results!

Is it written in the stars that Billy will make good, saving himself and his loved ones from the flaws of his rebellious character?

Carousel was voted best musical of the twentieth century by ‘Time’ magazine and features some of the most timeless and captivating songs from musical theatre including ‘If I Love You’, ‘June is Bustin’ Out All Over’ and the iconic ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

PODS is coming full circle on Carousel, having first staged the show in the early days of its 26 year history.

The 2015 cast and crew are directed by Maxine Cook, who played Julie Jordan in PODS’ original production, assisted by

Dave Minton as producer while Ian Gerrard directs the music by Richard Rodgers.

This fresh, vibrant production promises to be as uplifting as it is moving when PODS bring it to the stage from June 1 to June 6.

Peformances will be held nightly from 7.30pm at the Number 8 Community Arts Centre in Pershore.

Tickets are available from the box office on 01386 555488, online at www.number8.org or from the High Street venue.
